Hi, I'm a furry, obsessed with discovering myself as a person, who I am, what I truly want, if it's healthy to want it or not...etc.

I found this blog through checking your Twitter through Telegram stickers, then I found the linked blog, clicked on your latest post "Just what I needed", and resonated with your ways of thinking.

I've read a few more, and there's some questions I got.

Do you often imagine yourself as being your crocodile character going on in your life?

When I bring my fantasy worlds into the real world and stuff, it makes me happier, and adds that 'essence' that's very nice.

Do you think it is good to do these sort of things? Or that others might do this too, even...non-furries?

I feel separate as a person, because I think that I'm only among the few who do such a thing. I know I shouldn't need to, because it's what makes ME happy, but I want to see the world through other's lenses to feel 'truly happy'. Why exactly? I don't know. Problems with my self-esteem maybe.

But yeah, those are my questions. I'm great to have stumbled across this site last night.

Hm. That's tricky. The answer is yes, kind of.

In a perfect world I'm him absolutely. When I think of myself in terms of essence, I'm him. In corporeal form, I have to be human. So when I think of myself do I think of Croc? Yeah, probably. It just feels better in almost every way. I'm not super fond of how I look so it's kind of a no brainer, plus it's infinitely more fun.

Do you think it is good to do these sort of things? Or that others might do this too, even...non-furries?

I think having a sense of creativity, of seeing yourself in a different light that makes you happy, is positive so long as it does not interfere with your ability to function in the physical real world we all are forced to live in.

Let's face it, the world is a total mess, how we often feel about ourselves is messy. It's kind of similar logic to people deciding that they aren't comfortable in the gender they were originally assigned - let people be who and want they want to be if it doesn't hurt anyone and helps them in some way.

I'm not sure what non-furries would envision themselves as, but we certainly don't own a monopoly on creativity or roleplay or whatever you want to call it.

So yes, I think it can be really helpful if it's a tool that helps you connect with yourself or your aspirations or what motivates you to be the best you.

I still had the best time on livejournal, personally. On Twitter you write something and it's instantly gone in a wall of other tweets, or possibly not even seen by anyone because the algorithm decides it's not worthy.

On LJ, it felt like people took more time to actually write something of essence, and have some meaningful discussions in the comments. Not that that never happens on Twitter, but i felt like it was just a much nicer place to share and discuss things.

For example, on LJ there used to be Fursuit LJ, an absolutely amazing community with good discussions, people posting tutorials, etc. This has been replaced by a Telegram group called the WIP Zone. The issue is, there are 1500 people in there, tens of thousands of pictures, and if you post a question there it will instantly be buries under hundreds of other messages. Noone would even bother posting tutorials anymore, and finding anything there is essentially pointless. I feel fortunate that I still had the amazing resource that was the Fursuit LJ available to me when I started, because there hasn't been anything like it anymore after LJ pretty much died.

@Karpour I can see what you mean by how both Twitter and Telegram can limit what you want to share and how to do it. No social media run by man will ever be perfect but LJ did have it's charm where it's community was tighter, fandoms could have great interactions and your presence was felt. My beef with Twitter it's not just how messages can get lost to the algorithm but how people can and will deliver a hot take no one asked for or accuse you of being ignorant if you want to discuss something else other than the hot topic of the moment.

LiveJournal did have its problematic elements and at times it dwelled too much in glamourizing depression and suicide (hence why many would call LiveJournal the site for emo Hot Topic goths). But for the most part everything you wrote and posted existed within its own bubble and again till the boom of MySpace, your thoughts and musings were hidden behind an username that made it hard to target you. They still could but not to the insane extremes Twitter would offer. It was ironically a place where you could be part of any fandom and have discussions and be more engaging.

A forum, now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time! (Well, actually I'm very active on one forum, and that's the small but resilient Handheld PC community forum)

We can all sob together about how LJ was a much better place than Twitter!

I wanna say that the concept of a forum evolved into discord groups and telegram chats. Back in the day forums were something that were kinda hard to access and create due to its complex nature. Now with Discord and Telegram you can easily create group, establish some base rules and create a community. Honestly that's why so many people have left Twitter to focus on streaming, Discord and Telegram because you can control your audience and even yourself whereas Twitter is a free-for-all in that once you make a statement EVERYONE has to be involved and deliver an opinion many didn't even ask for.
